2005: Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson pled no contest to a single misdemeanor
charge of resisting arrest without violence and was sentenced to 12 months
probation plus court costs in a settlement agreement of the charges resulted
in his run-in with Collier County sheriff’s deputies in Florida on December
31, 2003.
2001: R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck was arrested at London’s Heathrow Airport
after allegedly assaulting British Airways crewmembers while drunk during a
flight from Seattle to London. Buck was later found innocent of all charges
the following year.
1993: Former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman married for the third time,
this time to girlfriend Suzanne Accosta in Vence, France. They’re still
married to this day and they’ve had three children together.
1990: Kiss reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for
the second & final time with “Forever” which peaked at number eight & was
written by Paul Stanley & Michael Bolton.
1990: Van Halen performed at the opening night of its Cabo Wabo Cantina in
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Sammy Hagar would buy out his band-mates due to its
initial financial failure, which then went on to become a huge success.
1980: Pete Townshend released his first solo album Empty Glass which went on
to reach number five on the Billboard 200 album chart & sell one million
copies in the U.S.
1978: Sandy Denny of the Fairport Convention & the only guest singer on a
Led Zeppelin album when she co-sang on “Battle of Evermore” died of a
cerebral hemorrhage after falling down stairs at a friends house. She was 31
years old.
1973: Alice Cooper reached number one on the Billboard 200 album chart for
the first and only time with Billion Dollar Babies which spent one week on
top.
1970: Elton John made his solo concert debut at London’s Roundhouse opening
for T. Rex & Spooky Tooth.
