2000: In Jacksonville, FL, vandals pull up the grave of Lynryd Skynyrd frontman Ronnie Van Zant & the ashes of guitarist Steve Gaines. Their remains were shortly moved to an undisclosed burial site.
2000: Sting and his bandmates lost simultaneous chess matches against World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov at ABC television studios in New York City’s Times Square. Kasparov defeated them all in 50 minutes.
1999: Styx released their thirteenth album Brave New World which was their last album to feature original singer & keyboardist Dennis DeYoung. The album peaked at 175 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart.

1978: Peter Frampton was in a car accident in the Bahamas in which Frampton suffered a broken arm and cracked ribs.
1973: Deep Purple performed their last concert with Ian Gillan singing for them in Japan. David Coverdale would go on to replace Gillan. Gillan would rejoin the band in 1984 & continues to sing for them to this day.
1969: The Jimi Hendrix Experience played their final concert together at the Denver Pop Festival, which took place at Mile High Stadium.
