1995: Velvet Underground guitarist Sterling Morrison died of non-Hodgkin
lymphoma one day after his 53rd birthday in Poughkeepsie, NY.
1993: Billy Joel was the first musical guest on the premiere of The Late
Show with David Letterman.
1989: Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin was arrested for creating a
disturbance on an airline flight. He urinated on the floor, smoked in a
non-smoking section & verbally abused a stewardess.
1988: Bruce Springsteen & Julianne Phillips filed for divorce after
photographs of Springsteen & backing singer Patti Scialfa together were
published.
1986: David Lee Roth peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 Album Chart
with his debut full-length solo album Eat ‘Em and Smile which went on to
sell one million copies in the U.S.
1975: Free guitarist Paul Kossoff’s heart stopped beating for 35 minutes &
was revived after a blood clot in his leg was removed.
1973: Rolling Stone reported that The Doors have split up, two years after
the death of Jim Morrison.
1969: The three day Texas International Pop Festival kicked off in
Lewisville, TX, just outside of Dallas. Headliners on the festival included
Led Zeppelin, The Chicago Transit Authority, Janis Joplin, Santana, B.B.
King, Grand Funk Railroad & Johnny Winter.
1965: Bob Dylan released his sixth studio album Highway 61 Revisited which
was Dylan’s first mostly electric album. It went on to reach number three on
the Billboard 200 album chart & became one of Dylan’s most critically
acclaimed albums.
