2008: Pink Floyd keyboardist Richard Wright died of an undisclosed form of
cancer at his home in the U.K. He was 65 years old.
2006: The Knack sued Run-D.M.C. for copyright infringement after Run-D.M.C. sampled the guitar riff from “My Sharona” on their song “It’s Tricky” twenty years after the initial release of “It’s Tricky”.
2004: Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone died in his home in Los Angeles after a five year battle with prostate cancer. He was 55 years old.
1990: The Steve Miller Band reached the top of the U.K. Singles Chart with “The Joker” after it had been used in a commercial for Levi’s commercial in the U.K.
1988: Mark Knopfler announced the official end of Dire Straits. They would reunite in 1991 before splitting up for good in 1995.
1982: Queen performed their final concert in the U.S. with Freddie Mercury at The Forum in Inglewood, CA.
1979: Led Zeppelin reached the top of the Billboard 200 Album Chart for the sixth time with In Through the Out Door which began a seven week run on top.
1974: Uriah Heep bassist Gary Thain suffered an electric shock onstage during a concert in Denver. Thain would survive.
1964: During a Beatles concert at the Public Auditorium in Cleveland, they had to leave the stage for 15 minutes so the crowd can calm down after a group of overzealous fans managed to rush the stage.
